About This Blog and Me

This UK based blog is dedicated to all things food. I will blog about recipes (successes and failures), cocktails, cookery books, gadgets, and tips & techniques.

I love to cook and I’m always thinking about food. I like nothing better than browsing my various cookery books and magazines for recipe ideas and inspiration, and thinking how I can adapt recipes for my own tastes/needs/time/what I have in the house. It’s really satisfying  to make a delicious home-cooked meal from scratch, and the positive feedback from friends and family is an extra bonus.

Like many people I don’t always have a lot of money or time. To get around this I often cook thrifty meals in large batches and freeze portions for later (so don’t be surprised if some of the quantities in my recipes seem a bit excessive). Buying in bulk and cooking in large batches reduces your shopping and energy bills in the long run, and means you can reheat a healthy home-made meal in minutes after a long day at work. I’m also a fan of making meals using leftovers. Good for you bank balance and the environment!

I used to cook mostly  savoury foods (stews, roasts, pastas), but recently I’ve started to bake cakes and biscuits too, so there’ll also be a few recipes for those with a sweet tooth!

I  have a weakness for cocktails. Due to the lack of a decent cocktail bar in my home town, and the expense of buying cocktails in bars, I started to make my own a couple of years ago. It’s great fun, more time consuming than you’d think, but you never get a bad cocktail, as you can tweak recipes to your individual tastes.
